The public has grown weary of books where the ‘good guys’ are perfectly virtuous and the ‘bad guys’ completely evil. In today’s world, readers know that uncertainty and regret lie within every hero, while visions for a ‘better’ future drive even the most-hated villain. Finally, there is a book written with that understanding and knowledge.
'Path of Glory: Book One of Boundary’s Fall' is an epic tale of good versus evil, with a twist. The twist is what makes the story captivating. Set in the land of Madryn, a land similar enough to ours to be understood, yet different enough to offer an escape, Path of Glory is a study of human nature disguised as a fantasy adventure. The four races of Madryn, who once worked toward a common goal, are now at odds. Suspicious and mistrusting, they have all but forgotten their one-time friendship. Faced with the threat of a reawakening evil, these races must reforge their union or watch Madryn fall to the forces of darkness.
Two young men uncover the threat to Madryn, and the role of hero is thrust upon them. Painfully aware of their inadequacies, they agree to take news of the Boundary’s fall to the king. They race across Madryn, pursued by the agents of evil and haunted by their own fears. Along the way, they face grave danger and learn many valuable lessons.
'Path of Glory' is a tale of self-discovery, of recognizing one’s own faults and accepting them in others. It is a story of friendship, and of the advantages gained by ignoring racial differences. It seeks to define the true meanings of honor, duty, and sacrifice; while simultaneously exploring more subtle issues, like variability of truth and inconsistency of spirit.
Funk wrote this adventure while applying to medical school. He discovered, however, that he received more satisfaction from, and affected as many people with, his written words. He has since devoted himself full time to writing. What started as a hobby has grown into a passion and occupation.
